North Lake Church
est. 2009

Knowing Jesus &
Making Jesus known.
Then and now.

North Lake Church was planted in the spring of 2009 by Jamie and Rebekah Jones, who were sent to Smithville, MO by the BMA of America, the BMA of Missouri, and her mother church, Lindsay Lane Baptist Church.
Initially, North Lake solely met in the Jones’ home before holding their first Sunday services in the basement of what is now Security Bank of Kansas City on the corner of 92 and 169 in Smithville. Being a plant focused on authenticity, North Lake reached out to the community by selling gas cards, painting fire hydrants and hosting backyard Bible Clubs. As the church grew, her needs grew and North Lake sought to bring in an Associate Pastor.
In 2013, Jared Kathcart was appointed as Associate Pastor in charge of Youth and Children’s Ministry. Jared continued in this role until 2017, when Pastor Jamie resigned. The Lord saw fit in that time of transition to place Jared in the role of Pastor.
In late 2020, Pastor Jared informed the church that he planned to step down and would serve in the interim while North Lake conducted a search for its next Pastor. On March 14 2021, North Lake Church elected Alvin Colston to lead us to the next stage in our church life. Alvin and his family relocated from Emporia, KS where he had been serving as the pastor of student ministries for over
seven years.
Partnerships
Alvin loves to partner with other evangelical brother pastors to develop a network of biblical accountability and encouragement. From Emporia to Lawrence and the KC Northland area, North Lake Church has a wealth of support and ministry resources that are helping us pursue what God has called us to be.
One very special ministry support structure comes from Grace Church in Overland Park, KS. Grace Church has a vision of planting, replanting or revitalizing 100 churches in 20 years. North Lake Church is a revitalization ministry of Grace Church and Pastor Alvin is participating in their residency program to equip him to lead NLC in that process. We're so thankful for our friends and ministry partners at Grace Church and their commitment to be outward focused and generous with God's resources for His glory!!
